FRANKFURT and SINGAPORE, June 7, 2023 /CNW/ – StarAlliance, the world’s first and largest airline alliance, is pleased to announce the appointment of TheoPanagiotoulias as Chief Executive Officer.
Mr. Panagiotoulias has over 25 years of experience in the airline and aviation industry internationally. Since 2014, he was the Senior Vice President – Global Sales and Alliances of HawaiianAirlines. Previously, Mr. Panagiotoulias was Vice President and General Manager (Asia-Pacific) of SabreCorporation, a provider of technology solutions for the travel industry. He also spent 15 years with American Airlines, where he held various positions in commercial affairs, operations and management. His full biography is attached to the press release.
On behalf of the StarAlliance Network Leadership Council, I would like to congratulate Theo on his appointment as Chief Executive Officer of the StarAlliance Network, said Scott Kirby, CEO of UnitedAirlines and Chairman of the StarAlliance Network Leadership Council. His experience in commercial affairs and international air transport has given him a good understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing our sector today. I am convinced that he is the right person to lead the StarAlliance network into the future.
The StarAlliance network connects the world, Panagiotoulias said. Each year, more than 200 million customers travel with its 26 member carriers on more than 16,000 daily flights. The network has also led the change to promote a hassle-free passenger experience. I am honored to have been chosen to lead the StarAlliance team and work directly with our 26 member carriers to continue innovating as the world’s best airline alliance.
Mr. Panagiotoulias will succeed Charlotta Wieland, who has been seconded from ScandinavianAirlines (SAS) to serve as Interim Chief Executive Officer of the StarAlliance Network since January 2023. With the arrival of M.Panagiotoulias, MmeWieland will rejoin SAS and the StarAlliance network management board as the airline’s representative. The appointment of Mr. Panagiotoulias should take effect in the coming months, once the authorizations have been obtained and the administrative processes have been completed.

In 2022, Skytrax awarded the title of Best Global Airline Alliance to the StarAlliance network. The network aims to facilitate a seamless, high-quality travel experience among its 26 member carriers, as well as hassle-free connections across its extensive global network, while offering rewards and recognition to frequent international travellers.
In 2022, the StarAlliance network celebrated its 25eanniversary, making it the world’s oldest airline alliance. He also highlighted important milestones, such as the launch of the first StarAlliance credit card in conjunction with HSBC Australia, as well as the formation of an intermodal travel model, which expands the StarAlliance network beyond air travel to other transport ecosystems, such as rail networks.

TheoPanagiotoulias will be the next CEO of the StarAlliance network.
He has over 25 years of operational and commercial expertise in the airline and aviation industries, and has worked in Australia, China, Japan, Singapore and the United States.
Prior to joining the StarAlliance network, Mr. Pantagiotoulias served as Senior Vice President – Global Sales and Alliances of HawaiianAirlines for nine years and led global sales, alliance partnerships, government affairs and commercial functions in international markets. . Previously, he was vice president and general manager for the Asia-Pacific region of Saber Corporation. Earlier in his career, he spent 15 years at American Airlines, where he held various leadership positions in business affairs, operations and management.
Mr.Panagiotoulias is a graduate of HaileyburyCollege (melbourneAustralia) and completed the Advanced Leadership Program at the University of Cambridge (United Kingdom).
