Ford is preparing a Prime Video series on electric cars

The episodes are due to be released in June on the platform, an unprecedented marketing coup for a car manufacturer. The series will follow influencer Lexie Alford, who sets off in a Ford Explorer for a six-month world tour.

After four years without any new electric products in Europe, Ford is coming back and intends to make it known. In an upcoming series on Prime Video, the manufacturer wishes to demonstrate the accessibility of electromobility and charging, everywhere in the world. “Rather than saying it, we wanted to do it”explains to 01net.com Peter Zillig, marketing director of Ford Europe. On the program: a world tour in six months aboard the new Ford Explorer – which will ride the wave of video streaming to make itself known.

“The series will be available in June. We are opening orders for the model today and hope to begin deliveries in September. June is a good in-between month to support reservations”, adds Peter Zillig. The new electric Explorer counts on a price below 47,000 euros, to make it benefit from the ecological bonus in France. In terms of autonomy, it reaches 600 kilometers in the WLTP cycle, enough to expect around 500 kilometers in real conditions.

Lexie Alford, who particularly withdrew from social networks during these six months of travel, will soon exceed 500,000 subscribers on YouTube and has more than a million subscribers on Instagram. Ford wants to make him the face of his journey in his series on Prime Video (Amazon), and show through his adventures that it remains entirely possible to go electric. “It has driven 30,000 kilometers, so it shouldn't be a problem to go on vacation on an electric car. », convinces the marketing director.

It was to Nice that the adventurer left last September, aboard a pre-production copy of the Explorer equipped with a 78 kWh battery, all-wheel drive and 340 hp. This March 26, back in Nice, it has just completed this world tour and officially launched orders for the electric SUV. The “record”, as Ford describes it, still required the Ford Explorer to be replaced five times. We will now see if the series on Prime Video will be transparent about this organization and the problems encountered.

After the Mustang Mach-e and the F-150 Lightning in the United States, the new electric Explorer is aimed only at Europe, and will have to succeed in recovering the Mach-e division, which was losing more than 3 billion dollars Last year. The objective seems impossible: in just two years, the American manufacturer intends to regain balance in its electric division, and reach 600,000 sales in Europe. Its factory in Cologne in Germany will not be able to meet the objective alone: its maximum capacities are limited to 250,000 copies.

The rest of production will therefore have to go through Ford's Mexican site, which mainly produces the Mustang Mach-e. The sequel will be focused on a “sporty” crossover, still electric, as well as a Puma Gen-e.
