why prefer the French electric SUV to the Model Y?

The year 2024 is the year of all promises for the manufacturer Renault, which is renewing its range of electric cars. Barely released, we were able to try the Scénic E-Tech and we are convinced; so much so that for us it is the best electric car of 2024! We will explain everything to you.

9 /10

Renault Scénic E-Tech

  • The ideal electric car for families

  • Controlled consumption

  • Easy to drive

However, the Scénic name at Renault is not the most attractive when we look at its history. For a long time, the range consisted of minivans intended for families without the latter being the most innovative. Failing that, the Scénics were cars capable of lasting over time. With the Renault Scénic E-Tech, the diamond manufacturer is introducing a number of new features, including the work of Gilles Vidal, former designer at Peugeot. We had the opportunity to test drive this Renault Scénic E-Tech and we were won over, since we gave it a score of 9/10. According to the editorial staff, this is the best electric car of 2024… here’s why.

Why do we recommend the Renault Scénic E-Tech?

For its habitability

As mentioned above, the Scénic range at Renault places emphasis on comfort since they are cars intended for the family. The electric version is no exception, firstly offering a pleasant driving position. Above all, for passengers, the installation is comfortable with sufficient room for legs and shoulders. However, we regret that there is no space provided under the seats to slide your feet. The presence of a central armrest increases passenger comfort, particularly when watching a film. Regarding the trunk capacity, this is measured between 545 and 1670 liters. Little icing on the cake, the Scénic E-Tech has a Solarbay panoramic roof, ideal for enjoying the holiday road or the starry sky.

For driving comfort

The Scénic E-Tech offers very pleasant driving performance. On the road, the starting engine at 170 hp with a torque of 280 Nm works wonders. Despite its SUV appearance, the Renault electric car turns out to be very maneuverable with a turning radius announced at 10.9 meters. In terms of power deployed, don't expect to be blown away: 0 to 100 is done in 8.6 seconds. During our test, we were seduced by the smooth cornering, without needing to jerk the steering wheel. This goes hand in hand with constant comfort since the car is silent with a very pleasant seat, practical for long periods of driving.

For its consumption

The weak point of electric cars is their battery. In this case, from the entry-level version, the Scénic E-Tech is equipped with a 60 kWh battery with a WTLP range of 430 kilometers. With a more muscular configuration, the 87 kWh battery has an announced range of 625 kilometers. The maximum charging power is 150 kWh with an announced 10 to 80% up to 38 minutes depending on the capacity of the battery. During our test, we noted an average consumption of 16.6 kWh / 100 km, which increased to 20.2 with a faster driving pace. Note that an efficient route planner is in place on the Scénic E-Tech: this allows you to have the most optimal route, particularly with regard to the charging stations planned on your route.

For its quality/price ratio

In terms of price, note that the Scénic E-Tech is available in two versions: a Comfort Autonomy which is the entry level and a Greater Autonomy, which is better equipped. The series starts at 39,990 euros and goes up to 46,990 euros. Good news, the Scénic series is eligible for the ecological bonus of 4,000 euros, to allow you to reduce your bill. In this price range, the Scénic completely eclipses the Peugeot e-3008 and even has the luxury of competing with the Tesla Model Y. If the electric car is certainly our preference in our comparative guide, the French electric SUV is not clearly not to be neglected.

What are the weak points of the Renault Scénic E-Tech?

If the electric car has serious advantages, it is also not exempt from all criticism. Here are a few small points that might make you think twice before investing in the Scénic E-Tech.

From the outset, we can regret charging less quickly than the competition, even if the figures observed are good, this can be a very important point. In addition, the first versions of Renault Scénic E-Tech do not yet benefit from the One-Pedal braking system; we will have to wait for the production of new models and an update. Still in this desire to be picky, the lack of room for the rear passengers' feet under the front seats can be a negative point if you exceed 1.80 meters.

Who should I recommend the Renault Scénic E-Tech to?

  • For those looking for a family electric car
  • For those looking for an alternative to the Tesla Model Y
  • For those who prioritize comfort over performance
