With only a few days to go before the launch of the Xiaomi SU7 presentation, Lei Jun, CEO of the company, is rather effusive on social networks. On the Chinese social network Weibo, he explains that Xiaomi has deployed a fleet of 576 prototype vehicles for testing. These cars have accumulated no less than 100,000 kilometers of driving in real conditions.

The CEO explains that he himself participated in the tests, in particular by taking a short road trip from Beijing to Shanghai. To cross the 1276 km that separate the two cities, it will have taken 15 hours. So what is the real autonomy of the Xiaomi SU7, this electric sedan which will not arrive in France anytime soon?

The Xiaomi SU7 must recharge twice to travel from Beijing to Shanghai

To cover this distance equivalent to a Paris-Budapest trip, it will have been necessary recharge twice the all-wheel drive version of the Xiaomi SU7. Lei Jun explains that these moments allowed him to take breaks, which are therefore included in these 15 hours of travel. He also specifies that the traffic was ideal: “There weren't many cars on the road and the speed was above 100 km/h most of the time“, says the CEO of Xiaomi.

The climate was less so, since he was driving on a road in winter. If electric cars are twice as reliable as thermal cars in the cold, their batteries are suffering. Loss of range can reach 50% in particularly cold weather for certain electric cars. On January 5, when Lei Jun carried out this test, temperatures fluctuated between 6 and -8°C in Beijing.

Lei Jun drove the SU7 Max, whose announced autonomy is 800 kilometers. However, the CLTC cycle once again shows its generous data. Two recharges over 1,276 km suggests a fully charged battery.a range of 500 km initially, in cold weather.

Then, thanks to fast charging announced at 220 km recovered in five minutes, the CEO of Xiaomi was able to recharge the vehicle to 80% twice, for a range of 350km Everytime. This is enough to complete the journey and helps optimize recharge time. In fact, from 80 to 100% the times are longer. In any case, the recharge time would not have handicapped him in this race against time.

However, it is not known how many kilometers he had left at the finish or if he took more time for breaks. But there is no doubt that he did not seek to linger and rather to optimize recharge times, to announce these great results on social networks.
